Good management of research data, and opening it up where possible, has several advantages :
- Avoid the loss of data by ensuring secure storage and perennial archiving at the end of the project.
- Avoid the production of data that cannot be reused because it is poorly or not organised and documented.
- Ensure the reproducibility of research by enabling the validation of results.
- Value the researcher's work by publishing a dataset with DOI, linked to the publication.
- Initiate collaborations with other researchers and laboratories.
- Optimise the use of public money by avoiding the production of redundant data.
The diagram above shows the different stages of the data life cycle in a research project, as well as the practices and support services offered at Centrale Lyon for each stage.
The basic lifecycle diagram is taken from Doranum, a national platform for educational resources on managing and sharing research data.
