Since 2017, Centrale Lyon's Michel Serres library has been creating and running educational escape games. After an initial experience on the occasion of the School's 160th anniversary with "Nostra Campus", an escape game on the history of Centrale Lyon created in collaboration with the Club Jeux des élèves-ingénieurs, followed LIBERté (on the occasion of the Night of Reading), Closed Access, on open access to scientific publications and Escape the Fake, on fake science. The latter two were shared on HAL and organized in other higher education establishments (INSA Lyon, Universités Lyon 2 et Lyon 1, INRAE, CEA...).
In November, the library offered, over 3 weeks, its latest educational escape game: Data Curator, which deals with the management and opening up of research data. Created and tested as part of DATALyste, the Lyon Saint-Etienne site's Data Workshop, it has been designed to be transposable to other establishments. All the necessary documentation, files and links are available on HAL, and the necessary hardware is fairly easy to find. From an educational point of view, the escape game sweeps through the various stages of the data life cycle, from collection to sharing, and aims to raise awareness of good practice in the following areas:
- Data storage
- File naming
- Data cleaning
- Data management plans
- Data metadata and documentation
- Data sharing
While this theme is more specifically aimed at PhD students and teacher-researchers, the escape game is aimed at all audiences and requires no prior knowledge. 123 people (student-engineers, PhD students, lecturers, staff) tried their hand at the adventure over 28 sessions, and the best team was rewarded with a gift voucher to... an escape game store in Lyon.
