In 2nd year, the School's students have the opportunity to gain their first experience in scientific research by choosing to carry out a Research Application Project (RAP) in one of Centrale Lyon's laboratories.

The apprentice researchers, alone or in pairs, work on a research topic that they have chosen from a list of proposals from the School's teacher-researchers or constructed themselves, in agreement with their tutor, who will accompany them throughout the project.

The library also participates in their training by offering an introduction to scientific publication, as well as tools and methods to facilitate the search for scientific literature and the management of bibliographic references.

Reports from previous years are consultable online on our catalog.

The RAP is therefore a real opportunity for students to discover research from the inside, through practice and participation in the life of a laboratory.

Finally, students have the opportunity to take this first research experience all the way,by writing their final report in the form of a research article or poster, which may be submitted for publication in a scientific journal.

As the examples below show, some RAPs have resulted in the publication of articles co-authored by the students and their tutor(s) in recognized journals, and papers in international symposia. These students have thus benefited from high visibility and genuine recognition, by the scientific community, of the work carried out.

These scientific articles are also important for then applying for a thesis.

Gabin Rolland's testimonial

In 2019, Gabin Rolland and Nathan Rivière worked on PAR 124 "MecaSportCo: Analysis of sports data (Rugby, Foot,Basket, ..)", under the supervision of Romain Vuillemot and Wouter Bos.

Their aim was to characterize the movements of athletes (such as soccer, rugby or basketball players) using theoretical work on statistical modeling of particle trajectories in fluids.

Their PAR resulted in a paper at the 14th MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference (SSAC).

This annual event enables students and sports professionals to exchange views on the importance of data management in the world of sport.
